Ordered this device, very simple do it your self install. Easily connected to wi-fi, simple to program with nice graphics and user interface. Only gets a little tricky opening up port on router to access remotely - but Green Electronics real time response gave me simple instructions. But, given the smartness of this device, you really don't need to access remotely. (Green, suggestion, FAQ router configs on your web site). iPhone app is excellent. The real time connection to the national weather service with the automated adjustments to watering times is excellent - and a money saver!

Smart Machine, Indeed!

When ordering this machine, I was attracted by the idea of taking advantage of the free information that exists in the air, at any time, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This is expensive satellite and computer stuff being offered for free for practical use!

When arrived, the RainMachine exceeded my expectations, starting with its elegant and virtually unbreakable case (2 mm white polycarbonate plastic) and ending up with complex software that is yet easy to use. As a proof of the above, I was able to install and run the machine by only reading the 4-step instructions printed on a laminated 4.5" x 6.0" drill pattern. When I unplugged and then reconnected the power, the machine rebooted to the same state as before, displaying the right time. Also, when I turned off and then on the Wi-Fi router, the machine reconnected flawlessly.

A first pleasant surprise came in the first day of testing: in the morning, the machine displayed normal watering for the entire week and later changed to the "green" symbol and no watering for the next day (meaning rain), the sky being still clear... The weather changed during the night and it rained, indeed, next day as the machine had predicted at a time when there was no feeling in the air for a weather change!

Aside from the free use of the NOAA information, what differentiates this machine from other irrigation controllers is its capability to control 12 zones with more than one program "active" at a given time. The RainMachine computer takes care of possible logistic conflicts created by user's settings. The user does not need to remember the starting time and duration of various zones in various programs: if two or more programs attempt to draw water from the source simultaneously, the master program serializes their access to the source, displaying a "pending" message for the zones that are in a state of waiting to be connected. This allows for zones with different watering requirements to be differentiated not only by their watering times during a given watering day common to all zones, but also by the watering days assigned to each of them.

Most probably, I will never leave this piece of quality work to be used by "professional" gardeners, preferring to use it myself and to enjoy its statistical displays and other advanced features.

Best WiFi irrigation controller on the market today

Have done extensive research on Irrigation controllers that have both WiFi connectivity and SmartPhone App.
This product wins hands-down!

Display and touchscreen quality are top notch.
Programming is straightforward and the most flexible on the market.
WiFi and SmartPhone setup was easy to follow with their Wizard and online instructions.
Response to email from customer support was very fast. I have requested a new SmartPhone App feature that will show you actual water consumption (same as on the RainMachine's display). They responded that they will be adding that feature shortly.

The weather forecast data that is used to determine actual water usage works great. It is very accurate and allows for watering amounts that correspond to current weather conditions. Saves on watering bills!

I have had this unit running for almost three weeks and it has meet every expectation. Love controlling the unit remotely from my iPhone.
