What is the difference between the Office 2013 suites and Office 365 plans?

Microsoft Office is still the name Microsoft uses for its familiar productivity software. Office suites have traditionally included applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. All Office 2013 suites include the latest versions of the applications, for use on a single PC.

Microsoft uses the name “Office 365” for products that include cloud services, such as additional SkyDrive online storage, Skype minutes for home use, Lync web conferencing or Exchange Online hosted email for businesses. Cloud services are features that are enabled over the Internet. Most Office 365 plans also include the full-featured Office 2013 applications, which users can install across multiple computers and devices. All Office 365 products, such as Office 365 Home Premium, are paid for on a subscription basis, annually. Active subscribers will receive future rights to version upgrades as a benefit of their subscription. Entitlements vary by product.

How do I download Office?

Please note: This item requires a download directly from Microsoft. Below are instructions on what to expect when you purchase an Office download from Amazon.com:

1. Once you have completed your software download purchase at Amazon.com, you must click the "Continue to Office.com" button to get your software. The "Continue to Office.com" button can be found in your confirmation email, Your Games and Software Library, and on the Thank You page once you've completed your purchase.
2. You will be directed to a custom Microsoft Office site to register or sign-in with a Microsoft account.
3. Select your preferred country and language.
4. From your "My Account" page with Microsoft, select the item that you want to install.

Eligibility

A little confusing, but works great!!

I gave this 4 stars because the process was a bit confusing.

I purchased this product and was redirected to Microsoft Office to provide my student email and verify I'm a student. I was then able to create an account on Microsoft's website and download the product directly through Microsoft. When I went to install the product after the download, I was asked to provide an activation key. They key I initially provided was the one of my software download orders page on Amazon, to which it told me the key was invalid. I became frustrated and started reading all these reviews and horror stories, so I immediately called Microsoft (I don't recommend this, as I was transferred to 3 different departments and wound up figuring out the problem on my own). YOU CANNOT USE THE PRODUCT KEY AMAZON PROVIDES. It won't work. You need to choose the second option when you're installing the product. I don't remember the exact wording, but it's along the lines of using your Microsoft account. It will ask you to enter the email address you provided to create your Microsoft account and the password. Installing the product this way worked perfectly!

Could not download

Would not download .contacted Microsoft Jumped through all the hoops I was told to jump through. They are not helpful at all. Contacted Amazon to get my money back again no help. I guess I got ripped off. Get the CD the download has big problems. I hope Microsoft people read this there support system needs work big time.

Bad Key

Use another source for your academic office. After 3 service calls still
Microsoft has not been able to help me solve this issue. Amazon was no help,
just passes on the responsibility to Microsoft.

Update: Amazon refunded the full amount of the purchase. Way to go Amazon
that's the way to keep loyal clients.
